Learn chess with the most experienced chess teachers available

For Students in Grades 2-6. Our online classes are live and interactive with a nationally certified chess coach; we do not use videos. We stratify the lesson groups by ability so that everyone is challenged but nobody is overwhelmed. Lessons are designed to help students develop confidence without boring them, and students are encouraged to share their ideas and questions with the class. Our teachers listen to each student to ensure that nobody is left behind, and we observe the games the students play with one another to determine points to emphasize in future lessons.

Online classes are 60 minutes, once each week from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm ET (UTC -5). Each class has 20-30 minutes of instruction and 30-40 minutes of supervised play. Space is limited.

The fall semester of online chess classes runs through January 2022. The spring semester of online classes runs from February 2022 through early June 2022.

The Center’s students have won more than 50 state and national chess championships (individual and team) and several hundred of our long-time students have gone on to attend highly selective universities, many on scholarship.

Teaching Kids to Think. Learning a skill for life

U.S. Chess Center teachers have provided high-quality chess instruction to at-risk youth since 1992. In that time, nearly every child we have taught completed high school by the age of 18. Two long-time students became Rhodes Scholars. Many others earned academic scholarships with hundreds attending highly selective universities. We have had more than 35,000 students complete at least 15 weeks of our classes.
