Phlebotomy Technician Program
Phlebotomy Technicians have many employment opportunities working in private practices, hospitals, laboratories, and reference laboratories with a variety of roles ranging from Hospital Laboratory Phlebotomist to Medical Insurance Physical Examiner.
The program includes a virtual theory section with a live instructor teaching a wide array of concepts and valuable, hands-on training in Astar’s simulation lab so students learn skills necessary to accept the responsibilities of and carry out technical clinical laboratory duties in medical facilities involved in the collection and testing of tissues and body fluids.

Duration: 80 Hours (5 Weeks)
Schedule:
- Classroom Hours (60 hours total) – Monday – Wednesday (3 evenings per week)
- Skills Practice Hours (20 hours total) – Thursdays & Fridays (2 evenings per week)

Astar Education Institute offers short-term healthcare certification training programs that provide all the skills necessary improve English Proficiency or become employed as a certified Caregiver, Phlebotomy Technician or EKG technician.
Our programs are ideal for students who need a jump-start for their new career and also those who already have experience but prefer learning new skills to help that will allow them to earn a higher hourly rate!

Patient Care Aide (PCA) Program
Astar’s Patient Care Aide (PCA) program allows students to quickly earn a caregiver certification in ONE week to immediately begin working as a caregiver for home health care companies. This course is perfect for new caregivers, family members and those who wish to start working in healthcare immediately as they grow and add other certifications. These jobs provide non-medical support services so students learn essential skills to provide personal, nutritional & rehabilitative care as well as home, safety and accident management for the caring of elderly, ill and disabled individuals.

** 2-Year BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association**
Duration: 40 Hours (5 days total)

- Weekday Evening In-Person Skills Lab Practice & Final Exam (Friday Only)
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program
Astar’s Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course is a great starting point for jump-starting your new healthcare career or to become an officially licensed caregiver in Virginia. This course provides all knowledge and skills necessary to perform basic care services for patients (acute care setting) or residents (long-term care setting). Students will be prepared to take a role of nursing assistant in a variety of settings including Assisted Living Facilities, Nursing Homes, Home Healthcare Companies and Adult Day Care Centers. This course meets curriculum requirements of the Virginia Board of Nursing so students are eligible to take Virginia Board Exams to become a licensed CNA and open a new career world of opportunities!

Duration: 120 hours (4 weeks total)
Schedule:
- Classroom/Online Theory Hours (80 hours total) – Weekdays, Evenings or Weekends
- Skills Practice Hours (40 hours) – Daytime, Evening, Weekend at Partner Health Facilities
Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Program
Astar’s Medication Aide Program is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing and allows students to not only care for Individuals, but administer prescribed medications. Medication Aides earn a higher hourly rate when compared to Certified Nursing Assistants since it’s an additional skill. Astar will provide training and skills required to succeed in this position, while additionally allowing students to earn a higher hourly pay rate with less physical labor. This certification is perfect for Nursing Assistants who would like to move forward in their career.

EKG Technician Program
This program focuses on skills necessary to carry out technical duties commonly performed by an EKG technician. Basic techniques and safety procedures for conducting EKG testing as well as measuring and recording the results are taught so students are prepared for jobs in hospitals, clinics, urgent cares and private practices. The need for EKG Technicians is growing every year and it is a great time to either start a new healthcare career or add this skillset to those already working in the field such as PCA’s, CNA’s and CMA’s.

ESL Courses
This class is a combines all four skill areas of English for improvement including reading, writing, listening & speaking. There is an intense focus on vocabulary development and pronunciation of the most common English words. Key techniques are utilized by Astar’s qualified instructors to ensure the class is interactive and inclusive of all types of learning styles, levels and potential goals. From daily use, to preparation for college/university, students of every level and background will benefit from these courses.
