Mark Meadows Now Calling Covid Story In Own Book ‘Fake News’
Dec 2, 2021

Chris Hayes: “All of the evidence points to Trump having Covid, knowing he had Covid, and spending a week spreading it around while covering it up and refusing to admit he’s sick. But Meadows is willing to undercut his own book in order to pretend that’s not true.”

Trump says Mark Meadows’ Covid claim is ‘fake news’. Hours later, Meadows agreed
Dec 3, 2021

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly ‘furious’ over a forthcoming book written by Mark Meadows, his former chief of staff, in which Meadows says Trump tested positive for Covid-19 on September 26 – three days before his first debate with Joe Biden. CNN chief political analyst Gloria Borger has more.

Trump Tried to Kill Biden with COVID-19

It turns out that Trump knew he had COVID at the first presidential debate, but lied about it. And then covered it up.

By TIM MILLER

12/03/2021

Of all the insane moments from 2020, this one still stands out: The former president of the United States knowingly and intentionally exposed his opponent to a deadly virus and covered it up to protect his re-election campaign.

Oh, you’d forgotten about that?

In October 2020 I wrote a story laying out the inconsistencies and evasions coming from the White House concerning the timeline of Trump’s COVID infection, especially as it related to his September 29, 2020 debate with Joe Biden. You can revisit it here, if you want the gory details.

A forthcoming book by Trump’s own chief of staff now reportedly indicates that Trump did, in fact, know that he had COVID when he showed up to the September 29 debate. From the Guardian:

Donald Trump tested positive for Covid-19 three days before his first debate against Joe Biden, the former president’s fourth and last chief of staff has revealed in a new book.

Mark Meadows also writes that though he knew each candidate was required “to test negative for the virus within seventy two hours of the start time … Nothing was going to stop [Trump] from going out there.”

The timeline as laid out by Meadows indicates that Trump tested positive for COVID three days before that debate, then followed up with a second negative test, then quit taking tests altogether so that he wouldn’t be prevented from debating.

Trump has kinda sorta disputed this version of events via fax, though it’s unclear why his own former chief of staff, a toadying supplicant, would be peddling fake news. It seems much more likely that Trump is using weasel words and Meadows is such a moron that he thought relaying this story made his old boss look like a Strong Fighting Man for all the poorly endowed super fans in need of a big daddy. Trump is so alpha that he beat Sleepy Joe in a debate while he had COVID!

The Meadows claim that Trump had tested positive for COVID pre-debate is further supported by the following facts:

These are all the actions of someone who knew he had COVID and wanted to debate anyway. Just as Meadows wrote.

Or, to reframe the episode just slightly: One sick old man decided to risk getting his old man opponent sick, too, and lied in order to do it.

Biden at age 77 was in the prime risk category for COVID-19, Trump spent an entire evening screaming and spittling in his general direction—remember, this was that debate—indoors, from a few feet away, without a mask.

Trump risked other people’s lives because he needed to get off on the applause that he expected after schlonging Biden (whoops). But also in order to wriggle out of the consequences of his months long refusal to take reasonable precautions regarding COVID, because he was intent on downplaying the virus. And then he lied about it and tried to coverup his lies in the aftermath.

Trump was lucky that he didn’t become “one of the diers.” As a country we were similarly lucky that this sitting president did not infect and kill his political rival with his carelessness. Donald Trump’s pathological megalomania put us in the position where that was possible and the only reason the country didn’t have to face the unrest that would result from such a horror was luck.

Trump was the chaos candidate. Some people hoped that the weight of the presidency would make him more responsible. It did not. Others hoped that, despite his erratic nature, the country might escape calamity during his watch. We did not. If private citizen Donald Trump wanted to risk his own life playing COVID roulette, that’s his call, though I’d be pretty damn pissed if he had put my grandmother at risk the way he did Biden and others.

As president he risked the lives of everyone in America. And it turned out that he was perfectly willing to risk Joe Biden’s life, too.

Biden Admin To Restart ‘Remain In Mexico’
Nov 26, 2021

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration will restart the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy following a deal with the Mexican government, a person familiar with the matter told NBC News.

The policy, formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols, requires migrants seeking asylum to wait outside the United States for their immigration court hearings.

The program will start again in border towns as soon as next week, the source said.

The Washington Post first reported the agreement to restart the policy.

Biden had ended the program when he took office this year, calling it inhumane because of the violence migrants faced waiting in Mexico for their court hearings. But Texas and Missouri officials sued the administration in April over the suspension of the program, and a federal judge in Texas ordered its reinstatement pending the outcome of the lawsuit in August.

The administration fought the order but lost in federal appeals court and the Supreme Court before agreeing to comply with the court’s order. The administration has said it still intends to end the program eventually.

Speaking about Biden’s opposition to the policy, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday that the president “continues to stand by exactly those comments and statements, and the secretary of Homeland Security put out memorandum conveying we want to end this program. But we also believe in following the law, and that’s exactly what we’re doing, as there was a ruling that required us moving forward with implementation.”

The Mexican government had voiced humanitarian concerns about restarting the program. In a statement on Friday, it said the U.S. would need to commit to expediting cases to limit the time that asylum seekers spend in Mexico, and provide them with medical care, Covid vaccines and access to attorneys.

The negotiations between the two countries have largely occurred outside of public view.

Biden hosted Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the White House in November, but Biden administration officials said that “Remain in Mexico” would not be discussed during their meetings.

Ex-White House chief of staff said former President Donald Trump won’t run in 2024 because he can’t ‘be seen as a loser’

By Erin Snodgrass

  • Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly is skeptical that Donald Trump will run in 2024.
  • But the former president continues to hint at a possible second run for the White House.
  • “He will not run,” Kelly told The Atlantic. “And the reason is he simply cannot be seen as a loser.”

As former President Donald Trump continues to tease a campaign to return to the White House, some of his former allies are skeptical that he will enter the presidential race come 2024.

John Kelly, Trump’s longest-serving White House chief of staff, expressed doubts that the former president will make a run for the executive seat again in an interview with The Atlantic published Tuesday.

Kelly told The Atlantic that he suspects Trump will continue to imply a possible run leading up to campaigning season, but in the end, will fail to follow through.

“Trump won’t run,” Kelly told the publication. “He’ll continue talking about it; he may even declare, but he will not run. And the reason is he simply cannot be seen as a loser.”

A representative for the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

After leaving his position at the White House in 2019, Kelly rarely criticized the former president in the remainder of Trump’s time in office. But the retired Marine Corps general has since expressed criticism of Trump following the January 6 Capitol attack.

Kelly told ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl that if Trump “was a real man, he would go down to the Capitol and tell them to stop,” referring to the mob of rioters who breached the Capitol nearly one year ago. His comments were included in Karl’s book, “Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show,” which was released earlier this month and details the final tumultuous year of Trump’s presidency.

Trump made headlines last weekend when he once again hinted at a 2024 run.

“I think if I run, I’ll get it,” he said in a Fox Business interview. “Look, I have a 94, 95% even, in the CPAC, I had a 98% approval rating. So if I decide to run, I’ll get it very easily.”

“Most people have said if I run, they won’t run against me, so I think that’s good,” he added.

Trump’s 2020 loss to President Joe Biden by nearly 7 million votes prompted the former president to cast doubt on his defeat by making several legal attempts to overturn the loss, all of which have failed.

Former associates of Trump seem to believe that that loss — and the possibility of another — could keep Trump from trying again.

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton and Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen have made similar predictions to Kelly, highlighting the former president’s aversion to defeat following the 2020 election.

“I think he knows deep inside, although he will never admit it, he did lose in 2020 and very much fears losing in 2024 because if he hates anything in the world, he hates being called a loser,” Bolton said last month

Trump White House Repeatedly Blocked Critical COVID Warnings, Officials Tell House Probe

“Our intention was certainly to get the public’s attention,” said CDC expert Dr. Nancy Messonnier, who said she was reprimanded for doing so.

By Mary Papenfuss

11/13/2021

The Donald Trump administration intervened multiple times to block critically important warnings to the public from the Centers for Diseased Control and Prevention as COVID-19 was exploding across the nation, top health officials have told congressional investigators, according to new testimony and other records released Friday and reported by The Washington Post.

A furious Trump immediately curtailed CDC officials’ media appearances after agency health expert Dr. Nancy Messonnier warned early last year that the spread of COVID-19 was inevitable, she told the House select subcommittee on the pandemic.

“Our intention was certainly to get the public’s attention,” Messonnier told investigators, but she was later reprimanded for the warning, including by then-Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar.

The CDC held no news briefings between early March 9 and the end of May last year as the pandemic was building and despite repeated requests from the agency, the Post noted.

Trump appointees also pressured the agency to change its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports to align with the White House’s optimistic messages about COVID-19, health officials said.

In the newly released excerpts of information from White House COVID-19 response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx, she accused Trump’s controversial White House adviser Scott Atlas of working to cut access to COVID-19 tests last year.

Trump frequently complained publicly that U.S. statistics looked bad because too many tests were revealing the nation’s high number of cases. Stopping tests was his solution to minimizing the appearance of a problem.

“If we stop testing right now, we’d have very few cases, if any,” Trump insisted in June last year.

Birx told the subcommittee that Atlas triggered changes to CDC testing recommendations two months later that called for excluding people without visible symptoms, even if they had been exposed to infected people.

“This document resulted in less testing and … less aggressive testing of those without symptoms that I believed were the primary reason for the early community spread,” Birx told investigators.

In information from Birx released by the subcommittee last month, Birx said she believes the COVID-19 death toll could have been cut as much as 40% with better decisions by the Trump White House.

Trump himself admitted to Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward that he knew COVID was “deadly stuff,” but that he deliberately downplayed the risk to the public.

“I wanted to always play it down,” Trump told Woodward, the journalist reported in his book “Rage.” “I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”

In February 2020 Trump said there were only 15 cases of COVID-19 in the nation, and that it would soon be “close to zero.” He also said that “like a miracle” the virus would “disappear,” and congratulated himself on doing a “pretty good job.”

Since then, 762,000 Americans have died of COVID.
