Over the summer, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) paid Critical Race Theory advocate Ibram X. Kendi $20,000 for a one-hour Zoom call. In addition, FCPS paid Kendi $24,000 for copies of his books on race. The lucrative contract between Kendi and the county schools was uncovered by Fairfax-based investigative journalist Asra Nomani.
Kendi recently made headlines with his tweets attacking interracial adoption. “Some White colonizers ‘adopted’ Black children,” Kendi tweeted. “They ‘civilized’ these ‘savage’ children in the ‘superior’ ways of White people, while using them as props in their lifelong pictures of denial, while cutting the biological parents of these children out of the picture of humanity.”
Last month, President Trump signed the Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping, which barred the use of federal funds to advance Critical Race Theory, calling it a “destructive ideology.”
On Thursday, Nomani joined WMAL’s Larry O’Connor Show to discuss the extent to which Critical Race Theory now holds sway over county schools. “I saw, as a parent, that this was trickling down into the classroom,” Nomani told O’Connor. “Those books are now required reading.”
